Intimate landscape master and Yosemite expert.
Charlotte Gibb is a contemporary fine art photographer based in Northern California specializing in landscapes of the Western United States.
Charlotte earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She cut her teeth in the advertising business as an art director in the 1990s, then operated her own graphic design firm for 15 years before selling the business and diving headlong into the craft of photography. Her darkroom, long gone now, has been replaced with digital darkroom tools, and her style has evolved from a somewhat journalistic approach, to one that pays tribute to the natural world.
Her images are frequently symbolic, with an eye oriented towards the subtle and sometimes overlooked elements of nature. The photographs she creates are not meant to be pretty postcards, but rather frames that celebrate nature’s form, line, shape, color, and texture. She returns to both familiar and secret places again and again to observe the changes brought about by the seasons, light and weather. She uses everything she knows about the technology of modern photography combined with her artistic aesthetic to create images that show the natural world differently.
Charlotte writes and publishes on the subject of photography and creativity, has been a keynote speaker for several photography events, served as a judge for many photography competitions, and exhibits her work throughout California. She can usually be found tromping about in the wilderness areas in and around Yosemite National Park.
