Why are there two Out of Chicago Conferences?

We’ve created two different events for 2019. The Spring Conference (April 27-28) covers all genres of photography and has tons of classes going on at the same time. We’ll have our Out of Chicago Shootout and a vendor expo.

We’ve created an all-new event taking place June 28-30 downtown Chicago. Just like we’ve done intimate landscape photography conferences in Acadia National Park and Moab, this is an intimate urban photography conference with some of the world’s best street and architecture photographers. It’s three full days of intimate classes, critique and hands-on, in-the-field sessions.

If you want to learn and try all types of photography, you’ll love the Spring Conference. If you want to spend three full days immersed in street and architecture photography in an amazing urban destination, the Urban Photography Conference was designed just for you.

Classes run from 8am to 6:15pm each day.

What the heck is Eventsquid?

Eventsquid is our new registration system.

What is the Out of Chicago Shootout?

During the lunch break, each of the instructors will be set up with a hands-on session for you to try new techniques and ask tons of questions. Each instructor will be assigned to a location and you can move from room to room at your own pace in whatever order you like.

What should I bring?

Bring your camera and a couple lenses. Bring a macro lens if you’d like to shoot water drops and macro setups at the shootout. Bring a long lens if you’re going to the heron rookery shoot. Each session lists suggested equipment. If you normally use a tripod, you may want that as well.

What is included?

All of the classes, photowalks, critiques, mini workshops, and one on one sessions are included except for the reptile shoot.

What is not included?

The reptile shoot has an additional charge

You may purchase a boxed lunch in your registration. (It’s very good!)

You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the heron shoot if you are participating in that excursion.

Is there a one-day option?

You may sign up for the full weekend of just one day.

Will I get into the classes and excursions that I really want?

When you register, you can sign up for your classes as part of your registration. You’ll know exactly what classes you’re in when you register. If you’d like to wait to choose your classes or want to change classes, you can always come back and make those changes up until the week of the event. Most of the classes take place in an intimate classroom setting to give you as much interaction with the instructor as possible.

How should I get to The College of Lake County? Where should I fly in to?

The College of Lake County is conveniently located just west of I-94 if you’re driving from the Chicago suburbs or surrounding states.

If you’re flying, the closest airport is O’Hare. We recommend that you rent a car at O’Hare.

Are there places to eat?

There is a cafe on site that serves snacks and lunch, but it may only be open on Saturday. There is a box lunch option that you can purchase when you register for either day. Or you can add it on at a later date.

What is the refund policy?

You can read the official Out of Chicago refund policy here.

Will there be camera companies at the event?

Art’s Camera from Milwaukee will be our official retailer for this event. They will have representatives from major camera companies with them at the event.

Where can I park?

There is plenty of free parking available on site.
