The Power of Exclusion

“Sometimes you can tell a large story with a small subject” – Elliot Porter This session is going to focus on my personal philosophy as a photographer: creating concise and powerful photographs. You don’t always need to include everything around you in order to make an impactful image. Actually, most of the time it’s the simpler, quieter images that not only grab our attention, but sustain it, as we try to unravel the mystery of what it is exactly that we are looking at. I have found that creating thought provoking photography has more to do with what you choose to exclude from your frame, rather than inclusion. In this session I will share lessons and examples of ways you can create mystery in your images, draw more attention to your subjects, and achieve powerful visual effects by simplifying your compositions down to the bare essentials.

• Create mystery and thought provoking compositions
