Discover the magic hidden in your junk drawer and join Alan Shapiro for a free photo challenge on February 4th! Everyone has a junk drawer (or two) filled with all sorts of flotsam and jetsam. Extra keys, paperclips, pens, batteries, spare change, extra piece-parts from some thingamabob, scraps of paper, plus so many rubber bands and who knows what trinkets you tossed in and forgot about. There are artful creations waiting to be made from all that you have long forgotten and will find joy searching through as we make art from the stuff in your junk drawer. Most of us are used to grabbing our cameras and going off searching for exciting, dramatic, beautiful things to capture. But it’s cold for many of us, so how about we stay inside for an afternoon or evening and make some art. Yes, this creative exercise of “making” vs. finding” uses a different part of your brain. And yes, it will spark something no matter what genre you often practice. Alan’s promise from this challenge is to show you that there is magic to be found (and made) in the most unexpected places.
