Landscape Photographer and Photo Educator
I am a landscape and travel photographer and photo educator from Ashland, Oregon. I've been working full time as a photographer since 2004. I got started in photography as a way to document climbs and treks I was doing when I was younger and generally more energetic. Over time I became more interested in the photography than the climbing. I have continued traveling in the mountains mainly to photograph them instead of scaling them.
My first career was as a middle school science teacher, so photography education has been a great fit for my second career. A lot of my work these days includes teaching and presenting as well as producing online video courses. Way back in 2006, I began learning about luminosity masks from Tony Kuyper, the creator of the TK Panel, and since about 2011 I have produced much of the learning material for his tools. I'm also one of the members of Photo Cascadia, a team of Northwest-based friends/photographers who have the goal of spreading the stoke for adventure, wild places, conservation and landscape photography throughout the land. In 2020 we published a photo book called Oregon My Oregon: Land of Natural Wonders.
