Franka Gabler

Based in Coarsegold, California
Out of Chicago Instructor
Landscape Photographer and Instructor
Being a scientist and a landscape photographer, Franka developed a fascination, admiration, and respect for nature. Franka is based in California - she lives in the Sierra Nevada foothills, not far from Yosemite National Park.
For many years now, Franka has been drawing her inspiration from subtle, moody, often intimate landscapes – compositions somewhere between detail/abstract – and the wider view, beyond a mere record of a particular location. Such compositions allow for extracting unique scenes from otherwise well-known places. Franka always looks for exciting light and atmospheric conditions. Her photographs are evocative - the light and atmosphere evident in her photographs often result in sentimental impact and ethereal feeling. She strives to capture the mood and the essence of the place she photographs. She often photographs in misty and foggy conditions, which allow for interesting compositions and interpretations, concealing distracting elements and leaving only the essence.
Franka’s photographs are published in several books and publications. Her work is represented in several galleries and has been featured in numerous exhibits.
